Adult Learn To Play Volleyball with Steve Martin Starting Wednesday March 3rd and ending Wednesday May 26th Times will run from 7:00 P.M. to 9:00 P.M. held in the large gym at the West Rutland School. Two courts will be set up in the gym: One court will be dedicated to “learn to play”. Beginning players are welcome! Play on the second court will be determined by the mix of players attending. There is the potential for a competitive 4 on 4 league or beginner/intermediate pick up on the second court. More information available on the first night of play. Fee – None unless a competitive league forms.
Men’s Pick Up Basketball • Starting Thursday, March 4th and ending Thursday, April 8th • Times will run from 7:30 to 9:00 P.M. • The upcoming session will be split by age into an Under 35 group and an over 35 group. • Both groups will share the big gym and will play side to side. As always, we ask players to be considerate of the fact that they are guests of the school and to take into account that there are often students of various ages around. • Fee - None
Community Garden • There will be a meeting at the town hall on Tuesday, March 23 at 7:00 P.M. for all those interested in helping plan a Community Garden at the Recreation Area in West Rutland. We hope to have one or more Master Gardeners on hand and will discuss layout, location, plot size, fees, etc. Information from existing Community Gardens will be available as a reference. • A second meeting will be held Tuesday, April 20th at 7:00 P.M. for anyone interested in planting and tending a plot in the Community Garden.
Baseball/Softball • Registration will be held at the School in the Gym on the Night of Shining Stars which is set for Tuesday, March 30th. • Registrations will be accepted until Tuesday, April 13th at which point a late fee of $10 will be added. No registrations will be accepted after Tuesday, April 20th. There is an additional $10 non-resident fee.
For the Little Ones (Kindergarten through 2nd grade): • T-Ball: (players will be in Pre-School or Kindergarten). Games to start in Mid-May. Fee is $20 per player. • Mighty Mights: (players will be in Grades 1 and 2). Games to start in Mid-May. Fee is $20 per player. Baseball: We will continue to play in the Rutland Recreation Cal Ripkin Baseball League • Minors: (players must be at least 9 and can’t turn 11 until 5/1/10) are set to start May 10th with an end of season league wide Jamboree set for Saturday, June 26th . Fee will be $25 per player. • Majors: (players must be at least 11 and can’t turn 13 until 5/1/10) are set to start May 3rd with playoffs to start June 22 and the season ending by July 1st. Fee will be $25 per player
Softball: • Information regarding dates of play, age requirements, etc. will be available at the Night of Shining Stars sign up on Tuesday, March 30th. Fee will be $30 per player.
Sponsorship Opportunities are available for local businesses. Field Sponsorships with Signage on the Outfield Fence at the Recreation Area and Team Sponsorships with representation on the backs of player uniforms are available. Please contact Rich Dow at 438-4491 for more information.
Family Movie Nights On the big screen at the town hall for the April School Vacation. We will focus on New Releases and will have a double feature on Wednesday, April 14th and another double feature on Thursday, April 15th. Both nights the opening show will start at 5:30 P.M. and will be aimed at smaller kids (rated G or PG) with the second show starting at 7:00 P.M. aimed at junior high and older (probably not appropriate for younger kids). Please check the Town Website at http://www.westrutlandtown.com/ for Titles and Ratings as the April break gets closer. Admission is free; please bring a non-perishable food item for the local Food Shelf. There will be concessions selling popcorn, drinks and candy.
Perennial Plant Swap • If you have perennials that are running wild and want to thin them out and share/swap with neighbors and friends, please bring them to the Perennial Plant Swap at the West Rutland Recreation Area. • This will be a 2 day event. Drop offs will be accepted Saturday, May 8th from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M. at the West Rutland Recreation Area. • Dropping perennials off on Saturday gets you a voucher indicating the number of plants you dropped off. • The voucher acts as your admission ticket to come back Sunday, May 9th from 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. and pick up as many plants as you dropped off the previous day • Please label plants with as much information as you have (type of plant, color of bloom, when it blooms, what it likes in terms of light, soil, water, etc.). • Also, if anyone has a good gardening book with pictures to lend for this event it will be helpful as a reference. • Rain Dates set for drop off Saturday, May 22nd from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M. and pick up Sunday, May 23rd from 10 A.M. to 2 P.M.

Book Swap • If you have books you’d like to swap/share with neighbors and friends, please bring them to a book swap at the West Rutland Library. • This will be a 2 day event similar to the Perennial Plant Swap mentioned above. Drop off tentatively set for a Saturday in Mid-June with pick up the following day. • Dropping books off on Saturday gets you a voucher indicating the number of books you dropped off. • The voucher acts as your admission ticket to come back Sunday and pick up as many books as you dropped off the previous day. • Any books left over will be donated to the Library.
