Construction Update

West Rutland Paving/Intersection Project

[Business Route 4 and VT 4A]

PROJECT TYPE: Roadway

LOCATION: This project begins at the US-4 and BUS-4 intersection in West Rutland and heads east along BUS-4 to the Class 1 Town Highway limit in front of the Rutland Town Clerk’s Office (MM 0.997). The total project length is 3.094 miles. The intersection project is located in the town of West Rutland at the intersection of Business Route 4 and Vermont Route 4A (near the Price Chopper Plaza).

SCOPE OF WORK: Construction activities include coarse milling (grinding) of the roadway, paving with a leveling and wearing (final) course, intersection reconfiguration (removal of the jughandle), traffic signal improvements, reconstruction of an at-grade railroad crossing, guardrail, pavement markings, signs, drainage rehabilitation and other highway related items.

As part of Governor Scott’s “Work Smart, Stay Safe” order, all construction crews are currently subject to safety restrictions and precautions.

ANTICIPATED CONSTRUCTION ACTIVITIES:

Sub-contractor ECI will continue work on signal foundations at the intersection of Business Rt 4 and VT 4A next week. Work hours will be Monday-Friday

6:30 AM – 6:30 PM with occasional lane/shoulder closures.

Signal work and track work is scheduled to continue on the railroad crossing on Business Rt. 4 through the week of 5/18. A speed reduction from 40 mph to 30 mph will be in place in the vicinity of the railroad tracks. A two-lane merge will go into effect for westbound traffic on Business Rt. 4 as it approaches the rail crossing.

TRAFFIC IMPACTS:

Occasional lane/shoulder closures may occur in the vicinity of the intersection. Traffic control personnel will be onsite assisting with the flow of traffic as needed. No delays are expected.

In the vicinity of the railroad crossing a speed reduction will be in place and traffic will be reduced to one lane of travel for westbound traffic as it approaches the crossing.

Memorial Day Holiday: In observance of the Memorial Day holiday, crews will be off of the road at noon and work will resume on Tuesday, 5/26 at 6:30 AM

Project Location: Roadway

Location: Beginning at the intersection of VT-133 (Clarendon Ave.) and Skyline Drive extending northerly along VT-133 (Clarendon Ave) to its intersection with VT-4A (Main Street). The project also begins west of the intersection of VT-4A (Main Street) and Barnes Street at the Class 1 Town Highway limit and extends easterly along VT-4A (Main Street) to its intersection with BUS-4.

Scope of Work: Construction activities include milling (grinding) of the roadway, paving with a leveling and wearing course of asphalt, pavement markings. Sidewalk ramps and pedestrian crossing infrastructure will be replaced and upgraded to meet current ADA standards as necessary. Some bicycle features may be added where applicable and feasible, and other highway related items will be completed as well.

As part of Governor Scott’s “Work Smart, Stay Safe” order, all construction crews are currently subject to safety restrictions and precautions.

Construction Activities:

Crews are scheduled to continue milling operations along the project throughout the first half of next week. Once milling has been completed project-wide, surface prep will begin on Clarendon Avenue.

Paving of the shim coat of asphalt is scheduled to begin mid-week next week.

Traffic Impacts: Motorists can expect a one-way alternating traffic pattern in the vicinity of active construction operations. Minor delays may occur.

Memorial Day Holiday: In observance of the Memorial Day holiday, crews will be off of the road at noon and work will resume on Tuesday, 5/26 at 6:30 AM.
